Like the Google Home, the Nest Audio offers a wireless audio experience through Bluetooth, Google Cast, or Wi-Fi. What’s it like to use the Google Home Max?
Then you'll want to take a look at the monster-sized Google Home Max. This large-speaker houses two 4.5-inch woofers for high-fidelity music playback along with the Google Assistant tech that's proved so popular in the Google Home range of smart speakers. Technically, this speaker is what we'd call super smart as it'll adjust its music playback automatically depending on room-size and placement. If you don’t feel like browsing through your phone to find that new Childish Gambino song, you can just ask the Home Max to play Feels Like Summer thanks to tiny built-in microphones. Unfortunately, you can’t say “Yo Google” just yet, but “Okay Google” or “Hey Google” work just fine. The standard Google Home was the first smart speaker Google released. It costs a fair bit more than the Home Mini, but the more powerful speaker can be worth it if you want to play louder music.

The Google Home Max isn’t just for listening to Google Assistant’s voice in high definition. It’s actually more for music lovers who like the idea of a smart speaker but have an ear for great-sounding music. Usually, the Google Home Max is one of the most expensive smart speakers out there, but with this discount it’s a little more affordable. You have a small tactile line at the top of the speaker that allows you to control volume and play/pause your audio content easily. You can also turn off the microphone with a physical switch located at the back of the speaker. Unfortunately, you can't skip forward or backward with the speaker's control scheme, but this shouldn't matter too much as you can still do so with voice commands.
All you get is the basic bass and treble sliders in the Google home app. I tested this by playing the song Havana by Camilla Cabelo at four different volumes . Then I played back a recording of myself saying “Hey Google” and played it from a separate speaker at distance of 5, 10, 15, and 20 feet. Sure, this isn’t the most scientific test ever devised but it does highlight how at higher volumes the microphones on the speaker have a hard time picking up voices. Unlike the smaller version, there is a camera on this version too giving you the option of video calls via the free Google Duo app which is also available on smartphones and PCs. There's also a switch on the device to turn the camera and mic off for added privacy.
